Confidence in Christ

"But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence." -Jeremiah 17:7

I remember when I first decided to follow Jesus, after I finally realized that He loved me. Because I still had a lot of brokenness in my life, I was hungry to learn more about God and develop my relationship with Him, hoping that He would fix the brokenness I felt.

One of the areas I was very weak in was my confidence. God began to help me in this area through many resources, and it wasn't until God had proven Himself over and over in my life that I began to become more confident — not necessarily in myself — but in Him and in His plan for my life. I began to feel confident because I realized I could trust in Him, and He began to entrust me with more too.

The Bible tells us what we shouldn't have confidence in:

  • Money (1 Timothy 6:17)

  • Powerful people (Psalm 146:3)

  • Unreliable people (Proverbs 25:19)

  • Our own righteousness (Luke 18:9)

  • Human effort (Philippians 3:3)

  • What we will do in the future (James 4:13)

And also what we should have confidence in:

  • God and His righteousness (Isaiah 32:17)

  • Being a follower of "the way" (2 Corithians 3:12)

  • People who have proven to be faithful (2 Cor 7:4, 2 Cor 8:22)

  • The message of the gospel (Philippians 1:14, 1 Timothy 3:13, Titus 1:2)

  • Our salvation (1 Thessalonians 5:8, Titus 3:7)

  • Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:19)

Do you have confidence in the One who created you?
